A short but intense blaze broke out in the undergrowth near the Urbanización Fuentes de Almuñécar, which is near Urbanización Citasol, Taramay. Around 150 metres of brush and undergrowth went up in flames around midnight during last week.
It was a security guard that noticed the small fire below a retaining wall that separates the access lane from some housing – he immediately alerted the local fire service, Policía Local, Guardia Civil and Protección Civil, by which time the fire had gained considerably in size and intensity.
As a precaution, the security guards asked residents to leave their homes until the fire was brought under control, most of whom were in their pajamas given the hour. It took around two hours to put the fire out.
To date, the cause of the fire is not known, although a carelessly discarded cigarette is thought to have been the cause, aided by strong winds, however, it does seem strange when you take into account amount of rain that has fallen in the last week…
