Splitting the Tax Burden

The Spokesman for the Partido Popular of Almuñécar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, has announced a proposal that was approved in the last plenary meeting of the Town Council, which effectively allows local-tax payers to pay their municipal taxes by part-payments, without having to pay any surcharge or interest.

Tax payers were already able to opt for ‘fractionalising’ their tax payments, but with a 5%-interest surcharge for late payment on top. According to the said spokesman, this measure has been made to take some of the financial pressure off citizens

Now, this ‘breather’ comes with certain conditions:

* The taxpayer must specify which payments he wants to ‘fractionalise,’ but the person must be up-to-date with his payments at the moment of making the request – great!

* The payer gets to choose how many payments he wants to convert his debt into, as long as individual payments are equal or superior to 25 euros.

* The payments cannot go over the tax year to which the debt corresponds.

* You can opt to make part payments on a bill as long as the voluntary payment period has not expired.

* The payments made will be discounted from the oldest bills and from the ones of the largest amount first. When each bill is completely paid, a receipt will be sent to the bill-payer.

* If one payment is missed, the arrangement will be cancelled, meaning that you will be charged the normal interest surcharge on top of the remainder owed.
