Nobody Interested

The Torrox Town Hall has finally given up trying to get somebody interested in the purchase of two pieces of municipal land, situated in the URP10 sector of the standing PGOU, which is the Barranco del Puerto area. As this land comes with a project for 152 state-subsidized dwellings, it is both surprising and equally it’s not: it’s a bargain, but who really believes that this is the moment to get stuck into such a project?

Actually, somebody did come forward with a bid; a local UTE (temporary union of companies) with an offer of 501,000 euros to purchase the land, but in the end they withdrew the offer.

“The situation within the real-estate sector is critical – completely inert, and the interested party couldn’t get a bank warranty for the amount offered, so the contract was never signed,” explained the Mayor of Torrox, Francisco Muñoz (PSOE), adding that for the moment the sale of municipal land for subsidized housing, (to raise funds) has been set aside until the real-estate market recovers.

The Mayor denies, however, that the stalled project has anything to do with the Junta opposing the sale of the 18,000 sq/m of public land because the asking price was below what the the law of the land will permit.
