Motril has just inaugurated and area centre for Parkinson’s sufferers and their families/carers. The Asociación Parkinson Granada Costa has 500 members.
The provincial Chairman for the Association, Luis Morales, expressed his thanks to all those present at the inauguration, especially for the collaboration on the part of the the Town Hall. There was also special thanks to Rosi Rodríguez, delegate for the Asociación on the coast, for her dedication and work to transform this long-time desire into reality.
The Councillor for Social Action, Ángeles López Cano, pointed out that the opening of the centre was an important event for Motril and the coast. The centre is expected to cater for some 50 people a day, which in the words of the said councillor was testimony to the labour and professional dedication of the Parkinson’s Association.
The Delegate for Social Welfare for the Junta de Andalucía, Magdalena Sánchez, who was also present, said, “Today is an important day for the area, as it is not only essential to support Parkinson’s sufferers, but to also promote social awareness of what this illness represents. Seventeen years after the setting up the Association,” she added, “the resources have been found to put such a centre into being.”
