Bent Coppers?

Before going into the subject of this article, the title should be explained for our non-native-English speakers: Bent coppers, means ‘corrupt policemen.’

Anyway, on with the plot… Five policemen are in the process of being tried in Mijas, charged with drug trafficking. These members of the Policia Local  intercepted 170 kilos of hashish, but instead of turning the confiscated drugs over, they allegedly loaded them into patrol cars, took them to a private address and set about selling them.

These boys in blue were arrested by the more convincing boys in green, which must have been a joyous occasion back in November 2009. The Green Meanies actually caught them red-handed, reportedly, in Las Lagunas with 12.6 kilos in a patrol car. The rest was found in a private house.

It’s taken since then for the greased-lightning, judicial system to get round to trying the accused. The Public Prosecutor is recommending a total of 34 years for the lot of them.

Off with their pods… if found guilty, of course.
