The steep hill leading up from the town-hall square (Plaza de la Constitución) to the main church is to have some work done on the stone steps, which have caused a few slips and bumps for the unwary.
The reform work will also widen the road so that emergency vehicles get down to the square without risking shredding their tyres – it’s a very tight squeeze, with the tyres on most cars rubbing the curbs on both sides.
The Councillor for Works and Maintenance, José Manuel Fernández Medina, explained that the steps in the pavements on both sides will be removed so that the pavement has just one continuous surface. In other words, the architectural barriers are being removed to afford better accessibility as well as safety. Great news for kids that got skateboards for Christmas, of course.
The reformation work has a budget of 110,000 euros. The Councillor said that the work will start ‘soon.’
