Poachers and Public Transport

(Jaén) The whole point of poaching is to hunt undetected; to avoid being seen, so you would think that travelling on a bus with 140 dead birds was a touch conspicuous. Well, one 31-year-old man from Arjonilla, Jaén, didn’t think so.

Rather than driving his car and risk being discovered at a check point, he thought that as a bus passenger, there was no chance of this. But the trouble was that the Guardia Civil had got a whiff of this particular manoeuvre, so there they were at the bus stop, smiling, waiting for him to get off the bus.

The police searched his large rucksack and found 140 small, unamused birds belonging to a protected species.
