The Plaza de la Constitución, more commonly known as the town-hall square, in Almuñécar, now sports a pretty impressive Christmas Tree, thanks to the City of Málaga.
How can you outshine previous Christmas lighting arrangements with the shortage of money that this years holds? Well, the Town Hall has found a way with a sod-off Christmas tree in the said square, involving five different levels of adornments.
The Councillor for Fiestas y Relaciones Institucionales, María del Mar Medina, armed with curiosity and very little money, decided to visit Málaga to see what ideas she could pick up from the city. Apparently, she and her opposite number got on famously and upon discovering that Málaga had some left over decorations that they were not using, asked to borrow them and received an affirmative response.
She was soon back with a 7m-high, Christmas Tree structure, and a two giant musical instruments – not real ones, of course: a tambourine and a cello.
The giant Christmas tree was placed in the town-hall square, the cello on the roundabout on the Avenida Don Juan Carlos I, and the tambourine in La Herradura. The two musical instruments will be decorated with pascueros (poinsettia), as is the Christmas Tree.
So, a big ‘Thank You’ to the City of Málaga and its example of Christmas spirit.
