Struck By a Lightning Bolt

(Jaen) A 16-year-old lass was unlucky enough to be struck by a bolt of lightning, whilst she was working on an ecological vegetable garden.

The incident took place in Navas de San Juan at around half seven in the evening one Sunday, when the young girl was working with her husband on the plot – despite her young age, she was married. They had decided to take shelter from the rain in their car, but before they could reach it, she was hit by a tremendous electrical discharge.

The husband managed to get her to the closest town, where they were met by an ambulance, which rushed her to the emergency ward at the San Agustin de Linares hospital, where she died at three in the morning.

The tragedy was two-fold, as she was in a state of advanced pregnancy and the doctors were unable to save the unborn child.

Furthermore, the couple had been accompanied by the girls younger sister, who was also struck a glancing blow, so to speak, by the same strike, but only received burns to her arm.
