The American Association based in Nerja donated a generous 1,000 euros to the Almuñécar branch of APAT, which is an association for the prevention and treatment of drug abuse.
This news comes a little late as it took place in the second fortnight of May and wasn’t included in the June edition due to space availability, but we didn’t want to let it pass completely without giving the act the space it deserves.
The funds donated will go towards acquiring equipment for the clothes and woodwork workshops. These workshops are just behind the Bar with No Name, by the way. El Taller de Asun is where the tailor/dressmaking workshop is based and Taller de Antonio is dedicated to the restoration of furniture.
The funds provided by the American Association were collected during the Nerja Foreign Resident’s Day. The Club not only has members from Nerja and Torrox, but also from La Herradura and Almuñécar.
The APAT, on the other hand, was formed in 1989 by the families of drug addicts at a time when there just wasn’t any support or help for people that were trying to get off drugs. The administrative offices of APAT can be found on the ground floor of the Social Services Centre behind the main-road petrol station.
