Ikea Granada 2012

Great news! Ikea should be opening its doors in Granada (Puliana) at the beginning of next year, just in time for the end of the world, according to the Mayan calendar!

Well, that’s the plan… the inauguration, that is, not the apocalypse, although you could be forgiven for putting more faith in the latter than the former, given the project’s track record.

Mr Peter Bezel, who is the General Director of Ikea Ibérica, which belongs to the parent Swedish company, announced that the company’s aim was to have a branch within one hour’s drive of every Spaniard (even those living in Patagonia?) and in the case of Andalucia, there are already branches in Sevilla and Malaga, so Granada is the next step, covering the whole province, the south of the province of Jaén and the West of the province of Almeria, as well as the east of the province of Cordoba.

Where Ikea will not be setting up shop was the originally considered location, with the Parque Comercial Kinópolis, put as the flagship business of the PPI-03 in Pulianas, which is just next-door really. The landowners on the Kinópolis shopping centre were buggering around too much, it appears. This is a huge blow to the Kinópolis shopping centre, and makes all the difference to the Puliana one, whose unoccupied building plots will now be snapped up.
