Socialist, Gonzalo Fernández Pulido, was sworn in as the new Mayor of Salobreña, as expected, leading a minority governing council. Like the town’s neighbour, Almuñécar, the Mayor will have to strike deals on major voting issues during the next four years, which will inevitably translate into ceding political stances in order to get the necessary motions through.

The actual voting session was a simple raising-of-hands (votación ordinaria), unlike Almuñécar, where it was necessary to cast the votes in sealed envelopes, as the Almuñécar socialists defied their provincial head office.

The 17 councillors are distributed as follows:

The PSOE occupy the posts of the governing council with their eight councillors: Gonzalo Fernández Pulido, (Mayor) and Mª Eugenia Rufino, Antonio Rabaneda, Mª Carmen Rodríguez, Ricardo Ruiz, Mª José García, Martín Valenzuela, Irene Justo.

In the opposition, the PP have four councillors, headed by Rubén Rodríguez, followed by Gustavo Aybar, Juan de Dios Márquez and Rosario Izquierdo. The IU has two councillors: Ángel Coello and José Manuel Díaz. The PA also has two with Antonio Martín and Juan Eloy Correa, and finally the PSI now only has one councillor, namely Javier Ortega.
