More than 40 Mexican mayors invaded Motril last month armed with tacos and bells, they having come to learn about emerging cities seeing as Motril is doing very well at this.
The conference, entitled, Development Strategy of an Emerging City, was held at the new Civic Centre and concentrated on the different ways cities can grow and prosper, comparing the Spanish model with the Mexican.
Mayor, Carlos Rojas, told attendees that Motril was an excellent example, listing its various awards for environmental and economic policies, and citing in particular the saving of 6,000 euros annually in the lighting of Avenida Salobreña. UN-Habitat, he reminded them, had also awarded Motril the title of Dynamic Municipality.
