Shivering Lobres

Poor little sods over at the Lobres primary school, CP Cervantes sit shivering, wearing their coats and scarves in their classrooms because the wiring in the building makes it impossible to use electric heating. Whose the bright spark behind that, you may ask.

Well, the fact of the matter is that it is an old building and there is no way you can plug in heaters for each of the classrooms where 90 kids receive their schooling.

The Councillor for Education in Salobreña, Isabel Correa, under whom Lobres comes under, has made written requests to the provincial education board.

“Although town halls have to carry out maintenance, they shouldn’t also have to cover the complete rewiring of electrical installations, she claims.”

Amazing, she says that she will give the provincial authorities two months to cough up the 4,000 needed, and if they don’t, the Town Hall will do it and send the bill. All very heroic of her, of course, but in two months the kids will be sweating in the June heat…
