The Mayor’s weekly newspaper Costa Tropical, has had a good go at campervans on La Herradura beach.
An article complains that these vehicles ‘take over’ the beaches, turning themselves into virtual chiringuitos. The newspaper claims that these visitors contribute little to the local economy and present a lamentable spectacle – complete bollocks, of course.
These visitors are normally retired folks who are not short of a bob or two. The campervans are a means of transport and somewhere to sleep, nothing more. The people who use them don’t turn up and lock themselves in – they visit restaurants, bars, buy from local shops and bring badly needed trade to our failing local economy.
They take up parking? Since when has the Town Hall been worried about a lack of parking – they’re bent upon turning every available parking area into widened sidewalks, restaurant terraces and bicycle lanes!
