The Town Hall has been ordered to pay compensation to a policeman for wrongly sanctioning him. Of course, what we really mean is you and I (the local tax payers) will have to pay the compensation, because the 10,000 euros will be paid from the municipal coffers, naturally.

The compensation sum corresponds to the loss of salary over six months whilst he was suspended, plus interest. The Town Hall had decided to suspend him because he had been off sick ‘suffering from anxiety’ in August 2006 but, however, managed to take part in two sports competitions during this period. However, it turns out that it was the man’s doctor who had instructed him to carry out his day-to-day life as ‘normally’ as possible (but not so normal that he would have to put a uniform on and work, of course).

The judge refused to accept the policeman’s further claim for 6,000 in compensation for damages, as the judge did not considered such claims as proven.

Note: ‘Cachondeo’, in this sense, means a farce or ‘joke’
