Well, thank God March is here! With the weather this bad, I wonder what to expect this month. If the rain doesn’t stop I’ll be thinking about getting myself a pair of rubber boots!
This week I saw the first tourists in town for two months! Even the hotels are now open… although the tourists look like Eskimos as they shuffle around in their big scarves, and although the Sierra Nevada looks amazing, it’s still sending us a bitterly cold wind.
As I travelled on the bus through Órgiva, I saw that the rains had completely destroyed an entire cortijo, completely washed away by the power of the water! There do say that you shouldn’t interfere with land belonging to a river, and if you build too close, the river will claim it back one day. Perhaps we have taken too much from nature, and all these ‘natural’ disasters around the world are down to the greed of us humans.
There are groups of people who are expecting major changes throughout the world due to the 2012 predictions of the Mayan Calendar. If you haven’t heard of this, have a look on the Internet. In the Alpujarra there are quite a few people who believe in the ‘phenomena’ of 2012… all very mystic, and I confess, I’m one of the mystic ones! Welcome to the March edition of the Alpujarra Angle.
