Crop Theft

Motril’s chirimoya ‘agriculturists’ (farmers to you and me but a grand word none-the-less), have been having a bad time of it of late. As soon as the chirimoya season has got underway the agriculturists (sounds good doesn’t it!) have been noticing that they are not the only ones harvesting their own crops.
Even though many large plantations are fenced and protected from outsiders, dastardly shenanigans have been going on with two men at the centre of police investigations. N.E.L. (43 years) and J.P.H. (21 years), both of Motril, were caught using a 4×4 to plough through a gated entrance of a property causing over 500 euros of damage and then trying to remove 51 boxes of chirimoyas with an approximate weight of one tonne! Surely, there must be easier ways of making a quick buck? Ooh, my back hurts just thinking of lifting a tonne of chirimoyas. The police have now swung into action by dressing as ‘countrymen’ (we presume that means in plain clothes) and are now hanging around chirimoya plantations looking more suspicious than potential robbers.
