Do you remember, years back, when that fishing boat was shipwrecked just of the beach between La Guardia and El Peñón, 20-odd years ago? Well, if you do, you might be surprised to hear that after all this time it is still causing problems.
The 20m-long wreck is sitting thee metres deep, half buried, just off the beach, thus representing a hazard for bathers and craft that move around that area. Accordingly, the Capitanía Marítima de Motril (local marine authority) has decided to salvage the wreck and cart it off to a suitable processing destination.
Work commenced around the beginning of the month, entailing dragging the wreck into deeper water where the R5 tug can get to grips with it, so that it can be re-floated, cut up and transported by sea to its final resting place.
