Small Canine War

Well now, long has there been a small war raging near Cigarrones, over the Río Guadalfeo from Órgiva.
Introducing, in the red corner, T and L, (anti-dragons) defending their right to attend to the needs of numerous abandoned dogs and cats, with the odd mulo viejo thrown in, on their own small rural property.
In the blue corner, we have, the Dragon Festival Enthusiasts and neighbours, wanting shot of the smelly dogs, so to speak, …not to mention festival adversaries.
A compounded argument, to which, aided by volatile comments fanned into flames by a blog spot by Arpi, a solution had to be found, pronto, before blood be shed; canine and/or Homo Sapien.
Ah! In the distance came riding Sir Lancelot, late sun glowing golden upon his hefty…lance: “I offer thee land!,” he pronounced, “Land that I own, mountain land, far from the maddening crowd, build thyselves a sanctuary there, a rugged refuge.”
And so it is that, fingers crossed for planning permission and financial help from the Junta or local Ayuntamiento, for them all, T and L, the animals, the neighbours – peace will reign at last.
You may ask why so many dogs are here? Good question! It is, largely, a foreigner generated problem. The Spanish keep their dogs chained, not roaming about mating. Most foreigners accumulate dogs over the years. They just show up in need of regular dinners (both dogs and hippies). Hippies and travellers kindly trail a dog or dogs along. These are not generally neutered, as the afore-mentioned folk have not the dinero to take them to the vet, hence creating a big part of the dog problem. I have no solution, other than reduced neutering fees and some much lacking common sense.
I take my hat off to both T and L and Sir L for finding light where there was none. Hooray!
