But it’s not all about people complaining; one Letter to the Editor in the Ideal was from a gentleman who praised the beauty of the Paseo del Altillo.
José Martín Morente wrote to rectify his many previous letters to the said newspaper, in which he criticised the demolition of the old paseo. He said that he had rejected the new project because he simply could not consider that it could replace the ‘majestic beauty’ of the old paseo, with its high date palms ‘that kissed the sky.’
He said that he had been wrong and too wrapped in nostalgia and that the Mayor and his team had made the right decision to modernise the paseo; not because the old one was defective, but because a town with an eye to the future must move on.
Well, whether you agree with him or not – and I don’t – he has at least had the guts to correct himself publicly where he felt he had erred.
