Dental Clinic Fire

As if one fire story weren’t enough, here’s another to get you checking your smoke alarms, sprinklers and fire extinguishers.
Fire broke out on the night of the 12th August in the small dental clinic called La Clinica, located in the corner of Plaza Nueva. Early indications suggest that the fire was caused by an electrical fault, and consisted of thick black smoke, which seeped into adjoining premises through air ducts causing damage.
The smoke was spotted quickly by near neighbours and the fire service were on the scene very quickly, along with the Guardia Civil and Local Police who kept a sizeable audience, who had gathered in the square, at bay to allow the fire-fighters to get on with their work.
Although there was not necessity to evacuate any local residents, the clothing shop next door had to remove its stock to avoid smoke damage, whilst the fire-fighters had to use oxygen to carry out their work due to the amount and intensity of the smoke.
The fire was discovered around 10pm, and local fire-fighters were assisted by an off-duty fire-fighter from Granada, who happened to be a friend of the owner of the clinic and therefore knew the layout, which assisted greatly in the rapid extinguishment of the flames.
