Being an ‘on-the-ball’ journalist, when I saw and heard fire engines flying around the village recently I decided to have another beer and think about what to do next. Sorry.
It wasn’t until the next day, in a bar, strangely, that someone told me that two cars had been burnt out at the start of the dry riverbed next to the pharmacy. So off I went, and managed to obtain a photo at least of the aftermath of the fire.
It did appear that a fire in the engine compartment of one had set fire to the rear of the other. However, local news reports suggested that it may have been deliberate, and some sort of revenge attack, but suggested no evidence to support this theory.
Whatever the cause, the fire was swiftly sorted out by the bomberos, and apart from a rather nasty niff in the air, nobody was hurt and the vehicles were subsequently removed from the barranco.
