On the subject of boats, coming up on the 21st of June in Salobreña is the third, annual, canoe-fishing competition. Regretfully I will not be taking part but, seeing as many people would have me believe that fishing is actually a fantastic sport, it should be a good date for the diary.
Organised by Deportes Cabopesca, a good turnout is expected as the competition has been fast gaining in popularity over the years. And, apart from the obvious glory of catching the biggest fish, an assortment of prizes is also up for grabs. Those handiest with their rods could go home with one of two brand new canoes, various accessories, including rods, tackle and a watch or even a coffee machine.
Entry fee is 20 euros to be paid in advance and then all you need to do is show up at 8 o’clock, with a fishing buddy and life jacket, on the Playa del Peñon, ready to start reeling them in. The competition will last from 9 am until 12 noon and for more information, contact em>Deportes Cabopesca on 958 610 699 or 607 920 523 or checkout their website at www.cabopesca.com.
