Royal Guards Regiment on Manoeuvres in Salobreña

Locals of and visitors to Salobreña will have seen quite a bit of military camouflage around the town lately and that is because the Spanish Royal Guards Regiment has taken up residence in the municipal sports hall. But you can relax; it’s not a military coup – again – but part of a combination of PR and military training, as each year a different province around Spain is chosen.

Royal Visit

One of the biggest highlights for a city or town in Denmark is when members of the Royal family pay a visit. At the time of writing this article, there is only one day until HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary visit the small community I am in.

Royal Naval Association

The RNA held its July meeting where it was announced that there would be no August one, with the next scheduled monthly meeting taking place on the 14th of September at 13.00h in the Argentina Steakhouse in Velilla.

Rum Time

Me and the Ed went with a bunch of ne’er-do-wells (The Royal Navy Association), to the Ron Montero S.L. bodega, in Motril. The owner Mari Helena, who both Martin and myself knew in another life about 30 years ago, showed us round. A lovely lady, she gave an extremely informative talk on how the rum is made, and the interesting history of the sugar can business in our area… for example, did you know that all that talk about how good Jamaican rum is?

Royal British Legion

News from the Nerja branch of The Royal British Legion that the 2009 annual Poppy Appeal, which this year targeted support for the wounded and bereaved of the conflict in Afghanistan, raised over €13,500 in our region alone.
