What’s Going On with the A7?

A socialist MP had some harsh words for the Government’s decision to re-evaluate the price tag for two stretches of motorway: the A7 between La Herradura and the A44 between Izbor and Velez de Benaudalla.

The municipal police have opened up a fining process against one of the protesters that had gather in front of the town hall for breaking the local by-laws about noise.

Police Nab Cortijo Raiders

The Guardia Civil have arrested three young men in connection with a spate of 13 burglaries at cortijos in the Salobreña area. The three men are from Salobreña, Molvízar and Ízbor.

IBI Increase Fixed at 20%

After a month of protests the Salobreña Mayor has announced that the proposed increase to the IBI (local property tax) will be ‘only’ 20&, instead of the originally announced percentage of 40%.

Burglaries at Restaurants

Salobreña has suffered from a series of break ins at restaurants on the paseo since summer. A total of 13 establishments have been targeted; twelve restaurants and one supermarket.

Salobreña Expired Food Problem

After complaints by several locals in Salobreña that food distributed by Amigos solidarios de Salobreña had expired use-by dates, the Town Hall has informed both this organisation and the Food Bank to cease this practice, otherwise they would revise its collaboration with them.

Unlucky Rosa Gets A Break

There is a lot more to Rosa Panadero’s case than just being another potential eviction candidate in Salobreña; life has been cruel and only a week before the eviction case she had buried her 16-year-old daughter, who had died in a car crash. Rosa had already lost her 18-year-old son five years previously.

Fines Solidarity

Citizens of Salobreña have been collecting money between them to cover the 1,450 euros in fines that two of their number have to pay over the IBI protests.

Town Hall Closes Bank Accounts?

The Salobreña Town Hall has announced that it will close down its bank account in any bank that carries out evictions.
Furthermore, the Mayor, Gonzalo Fernández, says that he will give instructions to the municipal police not to participate in any eviction unless their presence is specifically ordered by a judge.
