After complaints by several locals in Salobreña that food distributed by Amigos Solidarios de Salobreña had expired use-by dates, the Town Hall has informed both this organisation and the Food Bank to cease this practice, otherwise they would revise its collaboration with them.
The Councillor for Social Welfare, Mª José García, says that she considers the incidents to be a one off situation and that this should not smudge the image of the Food Bank and their ‘magnificent work.’
It should be remembered, she says, that the Food Bank does not distribute food directly, but does so through other institutions and charity organisations; which in this case was Amigos Solidarios de Salobreña.
She also pointed out that the food that the Town Hall distributes comes via the Spanish Red Cross, which is done on a quarterly basis.
