We might be in the cooler autumn but there is still the risk of hill fires, as Wednesday has shown with one declared within the municipality of Nerja, up in the Parque Natural de Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama.

The exact location was in the steep and craggy area between La Puerta and El Pico del Almendrón at a height of 1,500 metres. The column of smoke could be clearly seen down in the town of Nerja, over 10 kilometres distance from the fire.
Infoca said that the fire had been reported at 12.59h and had sent out two firefighter units, a fire truck and four airborne assets; two land-based, fixed-wing aircraft, a medium-heavy helicopter, and a heavy helicopter.
The fire was reported as stabilised at 14.45h, then at 15.15h, under control and 20.15h; i.e., after dark, it was declared as extinguished.
This is the second fire in the area within days (following a 3.5-hectare fire in nearby Torrox on Monday nigh and it is the second in Nerja’s natural park since August.
