A man who had been hospitalised in Cataluña, victim of a shooting incident, was later gunned down in his hospital bed…

This surprising event, which could have come straight out of a mafia gangster film, too place in the Hospital Joan XXIII in Tarragona.
The shooting that had put him in hospital in the first place had taken place two weeks previously in Salou (Tarragona) and the Catalan police, Los Mossos d’Esquadra, put it down to a turf war between drug gangs.
The attack within the hospital resulted in “several bullet wounds in critical points” (probably the head) and doctors at the hospital could do nothing to save his life.
The police confirmed that they had been informed of a shooting in the said hospita at 03:15h yesterday morning. Several patrol cars were despatched to the hospital.
The Criminal Investigations Division (DIC) has begun an investigation into the crime and the Catalan Government has sent a team of psychologists to attend to the hospital staff.
When the victim had first been admitted to hospital on the 16th, he was immediately put into the ICU until Tuesday, when he was transferred to a single-person ward on the 5th floor. He had been walking along a street when he received several bullet wounds to the legs, fired from a passing car.
Editorial comment: well, there you go; the British National Health might not be at its best at the moment, but at least you don’t get shot in your hospital bed…. in the private health sector, perhaps, but that would be charged as an extra.
