Molvízar has such a rat-infestation problem in the upper area of the village (Avenida de Ítrabo) that locals keep their doors and windows closed day and night in order to keep the blighters out.

At least ten locals have found the signs of a rat being in the house, coming across nibbled food and rat droppings. In fact, pets are at risk because two households lost pet birds.
And it’s not just people’s homes, but local shops, as well, which are forced to keep doors closed to prevent rats from entering, which doesn’t help customers from getting in, thinking that the shop is closed.
So, where are they coming from? Well, Molvízar is right out in the sticks, surrounded by countryside and with some nearby plots of land that were abandoned a score years ago, at least.
Naturally, locals want the Village Council to do something about it, such as get in a professional, pest-control company, yet according to some irate villagers, the Mayor & co have turned a deaf ear; or better said, claimed that there was nothing that they could do about it.
Mayor Irene Justo, on the other hand, states the council is doing what it can, such as pressuring private landowners to clear their land.
To top it all off, local pest workers warned that the rats are becoming immune to standard poisons, so the Village Council is now asking for more funding and resources from the Provincial Council to handle the crisis.
