Lorry Fire on A-44

A lorry driver managed to get out of his vehicle safely yesterday on the A-44 after flames broke out under the trailer.

The incident took place on the said autovía after where it crosses the Embalse de Rules, heading in the direction of the coast (see photo). The lorry was transporting sand when the driver noticed flames coming out from beneath the trailer.

Once clear of the vehicle and seeing that he could not put the fire out by himself, and because the vehicle was partially obstructing traffic on the lane closest to the hard shoulder, the driver phoned in the incident to 112.

The emergency call centre despatched the Motril fire service. They also informed Infoca in case the fire spread to vegetation before it could be put out; thus, they were on stand-by.

The fire was put out quickly and traffic flow was only slightly affected.
