If you like hiking in a large group and live in the municipality of Almuñécar, then you can’t go far wrong by tagging along on the hiking outings organised by the Municipal Sports Department.

For the planned outing for this Sunday, (4th) it’s off to the province of Almería to complete the Del Mar al Cielo route (From the Sea to the Sky) which might sound like a revindication from Hamas or Israel, but it isn’t of course. The route takes its name from a book by that same title by Antonio Rubio and published in 1880
The hike is described as a medium-difficulty route that runs between the towns of Berja and Darrícal and lasts around six hours, unless you end up crawling on your hands and knees, in which case it could take a tad longer.
The places that you will see are Las Torres, Hirmes, and its historic laundry house, before reaching the area surrounding the Benínar reservoir and ending in Darrícal.
Departure from Almuñécar is scheduled for 07:3 h from the Municipal Sports Stadium, where the hikers will catch the bus that will take them to the starting point of the trail.
Registration remains open and can be completed in person at the Sports Stadium, Monday to Thursday, from 09:00h to 14:00h and from 17:00h to 22:00h. For further information, you can either visit the Sports Department in the stadium or contact them by phoning at 958 883 142 or 673 369 309.
