What, No Roof?

The local  branch of the PSOE (socialists) in Almuñécar & La Herradura complained that the Las Tejas Municipal Stadium is starting the 2026/2027 sports season with improvement works still half-finished.

The modernisation of the sports installations was announced just under a year ago but with the season now opening, the stands, for example, are still not finished.

The PSOE considers that this is the result of the governing party’s lack of  planning on the modernising of the said sports facilities.

“Throughout this time, sports clubs, athletes, families, and fans have had to live with works that are progressing slowly and without a clear explanation regarding the expected deadlines for completing the stands,” stated the party Spokesman for La Herradura, Álvaro López.

He also considers that the Mayor has lost the opportunity to include a roof over the stand to protect spectators from the sun and rain. Perhaps there was not enough dosh?

He went on, “In La Herradura, we have many months of winds and intense sun exposure. If a renovation of the stands is undertaken, the logical thing to think about is how they will be used and plan for a roof,” he explained.

The Socialists also consider that the space, or rooms, underneath the stands could be better used as changing rooms and for sports equipment storage instead of just being a municipal storeroom, which they consider doesn’t do much for the image of the stadium.

“We want a well-kept, functional stadium designed for sports practice. The spaces beneath the stands have many possibilities and can help solve the storage and activity needs of La Herradura’s clubs,” López concluded.
