Calle Cantarero in Maro, (Nerja) is going to get a facelift after Nerja Town Hall put out to public tender a complete overhaul of the said street.

The budget set aside for the task is 340,377 euros and there is a strict 4-month maximum execution window once works begin. It is co-funded by the Málaga Provincial Council and from the municipal coffers.

Those companies interested have until the 24th of this month to put forwarda bid.

So what does the task include? The complete renewal of local sewage, stormwater drainage, and mains-water supply systems. Public street lighting and phone lines will also be replaced.

Obviously, once the street is filled back in again, it will sport new paving, updated street-signs and new urban furniture.

Now, you can’t just let a hungry JCB and a lunatic with a pneumatic drill get at it, as the centre of the village sits within the boundary of La Cueva de Nerja, which is classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest. In other words, don’t touch.

The village has already seen work done on Calle San José, Calle San Joaquín, and Calle Cristo and the Town Hall plans to have a go at Calle Maravilla in the near future.
