Wildfire Suspects Investigated

Police investigation into the recent wildfire in the Valle de Lecrín near the Embalse de Béznar on the 25th has two person under investigation, suspected of being the perpetrators.

The fire affected around 150 hectares of woodland, caused the evacuation of 80 people, and led to the confinement of residents in the municipality of El Pinar.

The Wildfire Investigation Brigade (BIIF) determined that the fire started on local farmland.

Infoca is backed by a specialised branch of the Policía Nacional who are attached to the Junta de Andalucia; Unidad de Policía Nacional Adscrita (UPA).

Their task is two fold: prevention work (their officers spotted smoke as the fire broke out, which is why there was such a rapid response time) and helping the BIIF in their work to determine exactly where a fire starts and what caused it; i.e., if there was any trace of accelerants.
