Saturday saw an open day at Motril Port until 14.00h, so that visitors could tour the port installations as well as board some of the ships based their.

The Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, was there, of course, together with a cluster of her councillors and a Central Government, provincial representative, José Antonio Montilla Martos.

This time round, the new fishing-sector installations were also open to visits, where fishermen showed those interested how freshly caught fish is processed: unloaded, sorted and auctioned off to restaurant owners etc.

Visitors also had the opportunity to look around the Spanish Navy, patrol boat, Centinela (P-72), ocean-going vessel, Duque de Ahumada belonging to the Guardia Civil’s Maritime Service, as well as the Sea Rescue tugboat SAR Mastelero, and the rapid-intervention launch, Salvamar Gienah.

The open day coincided with the Virgen del Carmen, who is the patron saint of seafarers.
