IX Costa Tropical Regatta

The 9th Costa Tropical Regatta, which is becoming a benchmark for sailing in Andalucía, was held last weekend with 15 craft participating of the Costa Tropical.

The Real Club Náutico de Motril organised the event, which was sponsored by the Granada Provincial Council (Diputación de Granada) with the collaboration of the Motril Port Authority and the Mancomunidad.

Over the two-day of competition, the sail boats navigated along the coastline between Motril and Almuñécar, and Motril to Castell de Ferro.

The Chairman of the Mancomunidad, Rafael Caballero, said that “The Costa Tropical Regatta has become a magnificent tool for promoting our coastline, showing sailors and visitors the scenic wealth of our coast and its enormous potential as a destination for active and sports tourism throughout the year.”

He went on to express his gratitude for “the work of the Real Club Náutico de Motril, the support of the Provincial Council of Granada, and the involvement of all collaborating entities.”

The competition was held under the rules of the Andalusian Sailing Federation and counted toward the Andalusian ORC Cruiser Championship. .

In the general category, first place went to Agapantux, skippered by Pablo Villar from the Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande. Second place went to Luna-Varadero Isla Verde, skippered by Antonio Infante, representing the Real Club Náutico de Algeciras. Third place went to Pulpo Negro, skippered by Giampiero Giannetti, a boat from the Real Club Náutico de Motril.
