Fire personnel from the Parque Norte de Granada were called out to rescue a man who fell into the river after doing a handstand on the bridge parapet.

Fire personnel  from the Parque Norte de Granada were called out to rescue a man who fell into the river after doing a handstand on the bridge parapet.

This occured one Tuesday around 10.45h in Pinos Puente and was reported by locals to the emergency coordination centre 112.

The lad was under the influence of narcotic substances; i.e., he was high, when he toppled over from a height of some fifteen metres. 

Officers belonging both the the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil rushed round to the Puente de la Virgen which crosses over Río Cubillas. Getting down to where the lad lay was not easy because of the undergrowth along the riverbed, which is virtually dry this time of year.

Fire personnel armed with an extending ladder and ropes & tackle reached him and strapped him onto a stretcher.

When the lad was brought up back to the road, the rescuers were met with a round of applause from the gathered locals.

No doubt after bowing and blowing kisses, the bent & buckled lad was taken by ambulance to the Hospital de Traumatología Hospital in Granada, where he was straightened out and is said to be recovering from his injuries.
