A cyclist, described as elderly, was knocked over in the town of Almuñécar Thursday morning by a driver who fled the scene.
The Policía Local spent the afternoon and evening scouring the town, looking for a car with signs of damage.

That night they found a numberplate lying on a street – police believe it might been loosened by the impact and fallen off soon after.
However, the car was not registered to an Almuñécar resident but rather to somebody perhaps living in Pinos Puente, so the contacted the Policía Local there, as well as the Guardia Civil to see if the vehicle that the numberplate belonged to had been involved in an accident.
In other words, it is not certain that the numberplate that was found is in anyway connected with the road incident that morning.
Judging by the photograph, the accident occurred on the roundabout on Don Juan Carlos I at the entrance to Calle Huerta de Suárez (the one leading to the highschool.)
