The body of an 80-year-old man was found off Playa Puerta del Mar in Almuñécar yesterday.

It was around 14.00h that the Emergency Coordination Centre, 112 received several calls, alerting to the presence of the body floating just off the beach.

Apparently, several people had entered the sea and pulled the victim out onto the beach. There they carried out CPR.

The Guardia Civil, Policia Local and an 061 ambulance were despatched to the scene. Despite the efforts of the bathers and the paramedics who had carried out CPR, nothing could be done for the elderly victim.

The results of a pending autopsy will show whether the victim died from drowning or from a natural cause, given his age.
