With the Andalusian Elections coming up this Sunday, political pledges are flying left, right and centre, with all sorts of wonderful promises and Salobreña is no exception.
Provincial candidate for Por Andalucía, Rafael Sánchez Rufo, made a flying stop, accompanied by Lara Hernández, co-coordinator of the Sumar movement at the national level who were also joined by a gaggle of other provincial or local party leaders.

They zeroed in on the La Caleta sugar factory and the mouth of the Río Guadalfeo, where in the former it was suggested turning this long closed down factory into a tourist attraction.
Sánchez Rufo said that, despite being listed as a Site of Cultural Interest, the site continues to deteriorate due to a lack of investment. Therefore, he suggested that the Junta got its finger out and restored the factory so that it could be opened up to the public as a museum.
As mentioned above, they also visited the Guadalfeo wetlands to push the idea of environmental conservation and a place for the environmentally minded to enjoy.
For her part, Lara Hernández had a good go at the actual regional PM, Juanma Moreno, for, in her opinion, prioritising private interests rathat than public investment.
Besides that call to restore the wetlands at the mouth of the river, there was a call for the planned Coastal Footpath where it passes close to the plaque in memory of the Desbandá of 1937 to be called the Memory Trail, but in Spanish, of course.
Words like, “sustainable” and “social development” were flung about it bit, which are part of the basic vocabulary of all politician not matter their affiliation.
