Waste Sensors

The city of Granada is installing sensors in the rubbish hoppers/bins across the city in order improve the waste-collection service.

Mayor Marifrán Carazo explained that these sensors will trigger a warning when the containers are 80% full so that the FCC rubbish-collection service can go round and empty them.

She pointed out that besides alerting the waster-collection service that the bins are ready for emptying, the data from the sensors can be used to modify waste-collection rounds so that the ones that fill up first can be scheduled in earlier than the rest.

This doesn’t mean that the regular nightly collections round will not be carried out, but that extra hoppers/bins can be left where there is high usage.

Editorial comment: hopefullu this will catch on along the Costa Tropical
