Las Explanadas Botch Job?

The Motril spokeswoman for Izquierda Unida (IU) Verdes Equo, Inma Omiste, has described the work going on along Las Explanadas as a "botch job."

She points out that after 13 months of working on this emblematic paseo in the heart of Motril, the work is still not complete, presenting a “pitiful image” for residents and visitors alike. She also said that this delay is not only an inconvenience but also represents economic losses for local businesses.

Councillor Omiste recalled how the paseo was originally reopened in early December, at which point citizens were already complaining about the poor condition of the paving tiles. However, the Councillor said that the Mayor had justified the delay until late December by citing gardening issues.

“They never mentioned defects in the paving,” she said, adding, “They even went as far as blaming subcontractors for the delays.”

She concluded that, considering the bulk of the project was the paving (costing nearly 700,000 euros) one cannot understand how it reached this point.

“The mismanagement and of lack of control by Mayor García Chamorro’s administration are having negative consequences on public resources,” adding sarcastically that while for the governing party, two million euros might not be a lot, it certainly is for the people of Motril, “whose money has been wasted on a project that is an absolute disaster.”
