Female doctors don't seem to be having much luck as far as something falling on them go, it seems, as is the recent case of a doctor being hit by a falling tree in Granada last month.
The reason for the wording of the leading paragraph is because, some might remember, a 28-year-old doctor was killed after a woman jumped out of a 7th-floor window of a hospital in Colombira and landed on top of her, killing her instantly.
This occurred in 2017 at the Hospital Universitario del Valle. She had been on her coffee break at the time, sitting at a table. The medical student who had jumped, survived the fall, thanks to the cushioning affect of the doctor’s body.
Not all female doctors are that unlucky, as in the case of Michelle Figueroa, who was also 28 years old, and escaped almost certain death when the lift that she was in crashed down 11 floors. This happened in Argentina in November, 2025. Amazingly, she did not suffer serious injuries but slight damage to her back, knees and hips.
And all this brings us back to the Spanish doctor in Granada who received head injuries when the branches of a tree fell on her. She had popped out of a doctor’s surgery in the centre of the city when the wind brought the tree down as she walked under it. Her own work companions rushed her to the A&E Department at Hospital de Neurotraumatología.
