Anglers vs. Ecologists

The Asociación de Pescadores Deportivos de la Costa Tropical has expressed its uttermost rejection over recent comments (statements/insinuations) coming from the Ecologists.

In fact, they are demanding the the Ecologistas en Accion make an immediate, public rectification.

This all stems from comments made by Juan Antonio Martínez, in his capacity as the Andalusian coordinator of Ecologistas en Acción. The sports-fishing association considers them to be “unjustified and baseless.”

But it’s not just a case of being annoyed and letting off steam but something more serious as they have decided to begin legal proceedings against Ecologist en Acción for slander amongst other things.

It doesn’t stop there because, they have not ruled out extending these legal actions to other individuals or organisations that have contributed to disseminating or supporting such accusations.

Well, as we haven’t a clue what the Ecologists have said, I don’t think the Gazette is amongst them, but never mind. It does appear, however, that the Ecologists might have suggested that poachers are amongst the association’s members, perhaps.

Finally, the association calls for “respect, rigor, and informative responsibility towards a community that,” as it maintains, “only seeks to carry out its activity in a sustainable and responsible manner, coexisting with all other users of the marine environment. “

Editorial comment: well, we can be reasonably certain that the illegal capture of protected species or illegal fishing in protected areas is not being carried out by astronauts, nomadic desert tribes on holiday nor people suffering from chronic hydrophobia.
