Lagos Abandoned!

The Spokesperson for the PP in Vélez de Benaudalla, Rafael Rodríguez Pérez, has had a good whinge about how the Town Hall is treating the residents of Lagos.

Lagos used to be this tiny dependency lost in the hills with one main square and a smattering of houses that were empy for most of the years – It’s changed.

The PP says that there are numerous deficiences there that are not being sorted out and the response from the Mayor has been “insufficient and disappointing.”

So what are the problems? The PP says that discarded rubbish is rampant and junk from households is accumulating; in other words, it’s a maintenance problem. The Town Hall did eventually removed it.

The playground remains unrepaired. Despite prior warnings and a recent accident involving a minor, the PP claims Mayor Francisco Gutiérrez Bautista has failed to install the requested safety flooring or new swings.

The PP says that there are streets with exposed wire mesh and potholes that pose a real risk to pedestrians, as well as sections lacking railings in areas with dangerous drops.

They also consider that residents continue to suffer frequent drinking-water outages and have exposed pipes at risk of bursting, in addition to a lack of street lighting at the entrance of the village.

The PP criticises the Mayor for not having taken steps to study future projects, such as using the hostel as a social centre, now that the village’s only bar has closed, or doing up the old laundry site as a tourist attraction.

It seems like the Good Folk of Lagos are not happy in general with Vélez de Benaudalla and were putting out feelers in 2022 about asking Motril to incorporate them as a municipal dependency and say goodbye to Vélez de Benaudall

Editorial comment: with a bit of luck, Fernando, who lives in Velez de Benaudalla, can shed some light on this, because Lagos is a packed lunch and a 3-day-camel trek up into the wild beyond… at least for someone like me, living in Dúrcal.
