If things go according to plan, which they seldom do, the new Centro de Salud should open its doors in June; in time for summer.
The Minister for Public Health for the Junta de Andalucia, after he had finished sniffing around a new wing for Hospital Santa Ana, popped across to Salobreña to accompany the Mayor, Javier Ortega, around the new medical premises.

Minister Sanz explained that the construction work was completely finished and had been signed off and what they were doing now was supplying and installing medical apparatus and furniture, etc, much of which, he said, had already been installed.
What is left to install is specific equipment for the Radiology Department.
The new structure covers and area of 2,500 sq/m distributed over three floors upon which are 22 doctors’ surgeries, two of which will be for Paediatricians. There will even been breast-feeding and maternal education areas.
There are also departments that were previously lacking in Salobreña, with locals having to go to Santa Ana in Motril or Granada, such has physiotherapy, electrotherapy and rehab, as well as a minor surgery theatre.
As for the A&E, it is more spacious than the old one, with better access, equipped with four surgeries, and treatment rooms, as well as an observations surgery.
Finally, this Centro de Salud will cover the needs of 17,583 residents of not only Salobreña proper, but also, La Caleta and Lobres, as well as Molvízar (2,742), Ítrabo (1,036) and Los Guájares 1,094).
