Helicopter Hits Power Lines

A military helicopter from the Armilla Air Base was forced to make an emergency landing in Pinos Genil after its collided with power lines.

The accident occurred around noon on Wednesday flying over the GR-3210, near the Oficina de Medio Ambiente.

It was a local who called 112 after witnessing the accident – fortunately, nobody had been injured, as they managed to put it down safely before the damage could cause it to crash.

The Mayor of Pinos Genil, Gabriel Gómez, confirmed that the three crew members on board were able to get out of the damaged helicopter without assistance.

The police have since cordoned off an area approximately the size of a standard football pitch but the area is being guarded by Spanish Air Force personnel from the air base whilst the base officials work out how to recover it, as it is too damaged to fly.

Editorial comment: it looks like an Airbus Helicopters H135 (previously known as the Eurocopter EC135) used by both the Spanish Air Force at flight-training schools and by the Guardia Civil.
