On the 18th of last month, work began on a plot of land in the TH1 sector to turn it into a car park for residents of La Caleta.
This is part of the idea for turning the centre of La Caleta into a pedestrian-only area. The Town Hall considers that it will make La Caleta safer, especially during summer but also ensuring parking for residents.
The first step was the demolition of the boundary wall and levelling the surface. Once it’s finished there will be CCTV cameras installed to make sure that nobody who shouldn’t park there, doesn’t – visitors will have to use existing parking areas at the entrance to the village.
Mayor Javier Ortega and his Councillor for Public Works, Juan Francisco Gutiérrez, visited the site to get their photo taken, just in case people had forgotten what they look like.
Finally, the Mayor pointed out that this parking arrangement was temporary, as the site is earmarked for a large public square connecting both ends of the hotel-development area.
