One minute you're scrimping and saving, wondering how you are going to avoid missing your mortgage payments and the next, you're a multi-millionaire – such is the National Lottery.

This was the case on Monday when an “unknown individual” won 126-million euros as he or she was the only person to come up with the winning combination of La Primitiva; there was no other winner to share it with.

The winner managed to get right the six individual numbers plus the reintegro (money-back number) winning at a stroke of the pen… well seven strokes, really, 126,469,236.14 euros.

Now, nobody knows who it was, but you can be sure that it wasn’t me, otherwise I wouldn’t be sat here at half nine in the evening writing this, right? No, the winner checked the results online, rather than walking into a lottery office to see if he or she (no, there is no third option) had won any money.

The National Lottery and Betting Organisation (ONLAE), declared that this was the largest prize ever awarded by La Primitiva in its history. To find the previous record for this draw, you must go back to October 2015, when a winner in Barcelona won over 101 million euros.
